13 Moons Rattery (13MR) is located in Roy, Oregon. We are a family run rattery breeding happy, healthy standard size and dwarf rats with amazing temperaments. We specialize in color points, roans/UK husky and selves. The color points include black eyed seal point siamese, black eyed russian blue point siamese, burmese/wheaten, and russian blue burmese/russian blue wheaten. Our roans/UK husky are not available to the public at this time. Our selves come in a variety of colors including black, agouti, mink, cinnamon, silvered mink, silvered cinnamon, russian blue and dove. We are still working on getting the white out of the toes and have some rusting issues, particularly in the blacks and minks.
Future plans include black eyed cream and black eyed ivory.
Health and temperament are our absolute first priority. Extensive pedigrees are kept on all lines. These peds include health and temperament information as well as the genetics and family history. Coloring, markings and confirmation also play an important role in our overall standards. The majority of rats from my color point and self dwarf lines are living two and a half to three plus years with no health issues other than the signs you would expect to see in an old rat. I haven't seen tumor or cancer issues in quite some time.
Showing: I am involved in the local rat group, RatsPacNW, which puts on several rat shows and gatherings throughout the Pacific Northwest. I rarely make it to shows myself as a busy family life at this time makes getting away very difficult, but that will change once the children grow up. Rat shows are a great opportunity to see how well our rats are doing in several areas including temperament and confirmation. These shows are also a wonderful place to socialize with fellow rattie lovers, gain friendships and gather a wealth of information. http://www.ratspacnw.org/ . RatsPacNW also has an active, friendly online group - http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/RatsPacNW/
Rescue: I almost always have rescued ratties living with me. I help out in local rescues in whatever way I can and highly support the dedicated rescuers who spend much of their lives saving the lives of countless rats from bad situations. I encourage everyone to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate to local rescue organizations. A very wonderful small animal rescue in the pacific northwest is Little Mischief Rescue located in Vancouver BC. There are rattie trains coming and going from there to Washington, Oregon and Idaho quite often. The Oregon Humane Society also has ratties and other small animals in need of good homes. http://www.oregonhumane.org/adopt/small_animals.asp
Online Store: Our plans for an online store geared specifically for small pets are in the works. My hopes are that by the summer of 2010 'Pocket Pet Planet' will be up and running. I am currently working on the final stages of licensing and tax obligations. In the beginning we will primarily be carrying rat supplies, but as time goes on we will have a full spectrum of quality affordable supplies for all of your pocket size pets. Customers who live close will be able to avoid paying shipping and handling costs. We will have supplies on hand at local RatPacNW shows.
